When I was a support worker, I saw individuals overlooked by a system that failed to see them for who they were. Especially those navigating the intersection of disability and the LGBTQIA+ community.

  • Are there LGBTQIA+ friendly disability support services in Australia?

Yes, we're one of them! We provide inclusive NDIS support services designed for LGBTQIA+ people with a disability. Our approach is identity-affirming, trauma-informed, and person-led, ensuring you feel safe, respected, and supported without needing to hide who you are.

  • What is an LGBTQIA+ affirming NDIS provider?

An affirming provider respects your identity, uses correct names and pronouns, and creates a safe, inclusive environment. We embed this into every part of our service, from staff training to how supports are delivered.

  • Do I need to be “out” to access disability support?

No. You choose what you share. We prioritise your privacy, safety, and comfort at all times.

  • Will my support worker respect my gender identity and pronouns?

Yes. Our team is trained in inclusive practice and respectful communication. Misgendering and discrimination are not accepted in our service.

  • Can I choose an LGBTQIA+ support worker?

You can request a worker who aligns with your identity, preferences, or lived experience. We prioritise your comfort and safety when matching support workers.

  • What if I’ve had a bad experience with other providers?

Many LGBTQIA+ people have experienced discrimination in NDIS services. We take a trauma-informed approach and work with you at your pace to rebuild trust.

  • How do I get started with Chosen Family?

You can contact us directly, submit a referral, or speak with your Support Coordinator. We’ll guide you through the next steps in a way that feels safe and supportive.
